Idea Generation Grant & Follow on Project: Virtual reality training for health workers

Redruth based company Dynamo Healthcare Training Academy work with 16-18 year olds to prepare them for careers in the healthcare service. The company has received a grant from Smartline to support an innovative new way of providing immersive work experience using virtual reality (VR) to simulate what it is like to undertake different jobs.

Dynamo Healthcare Training Academy have used the Idea Generation Grant to purchase VR equipment so that they can provide interactive, immersive simulations where individuals can experience what it is like to undertake different job roles.

Individuals will be able to see what it is like dealing with an emergency as a paramedic, supporting an elderly person with dementia, taking blood as a healthcare assistant or supporting a person with learning disabilities with day to day living and support tasks.

The enhanced VR simulations can also be used for training and development in different roles. The aim will be to raise the profile of careers to large numbers of people in Cornwall and hard to reach groups.

Smartline has enabled Dynamo to explore VR and its benefits with raising the profile of careers and assisting with education and training. This is an exciting new direction for Dynamo to develop products and services not yet available.
