EuHEA Oslo - One of the major international conferences for academics working in health economics

What was the EuHEA Conference 2022?

In July, members of the Smartline team travelled to the beautiful city of Oslo to present research as delegates at the EuHEA conference 2022, hosted by the Department of Health Management and Health Economics at the University of Oslo (UoO) in cooperation with the Frisch Centre, an independent research institution.

This year’s conference theme was Health economics for sustainable welfare systems, a topic reflected by Smartline’s leading research in home sensor technology, aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of tenants living in social housing managed by Coastline Housing in Cornwall.

Why is the EuHEA relevant to Smartline Research?

Attending the event, Dr Tim Taylor, is a Researcher on the Smartline project, we asked Dr Taylor why the EuHEA is relevant to Smartline research?

EuHEA is one of the major international conferences for academics working in health economics. It is very useful to get critique from colleagues working in the field to help us improve our work and develop ideas for how we can take Smartline forward in the future. Smartline is leading the way on smart sensor systems for health and it was great to see the interest from colleagues in what we are doing

Who did Smartline connect with and why?

“The Department of Health Management and Health Economics (HELED), at the University of Oslo, conducts research and teaching in the fields of health economics, health policy, health systems, quality of care, and health management.” (EuHEA 2022)

This rich academic setting provided Smartline researchers with a unique platform to present key findings from five years of research and participant engagement and as a result, begin shaping Smartline’s lived experience into a tried and tested model for successful health-led social housing through innovative sensor technology.

We asked Dr Tamaryn Menneer, Research Fellow at Smartline, how the local community aspects of Smartline research translate for an international audience?

We presented work with participants and Coastline Housing to co-design a dashboard for monitoring the home environment. Disseminating our work at EuHEA allows this Cornwall-based development to be considered in an international context. We received helpful positive feedback about the innovative nature of the project, and interesting considerations for the potential of these methods with other participant groups and housing associations.
