From digital tools to online programmes, where to start?

Our participants from across Cornwall shared their ambitions for using digital tools to showcase impact - from raising awareness, to running workshops, and connecting with supporters and customers.

We kicked off the event with Kate Doodson, Joint Chief Executive from Cosmic, a social enterprise that offers digital skills training and services. Kate recommended using internal platforms (intranets) to start building a bank of private resources that can easily be accessed by partners and funders. She also shared tips on using resources like reports, feedback forms, QR codes, bookings systems, event recordings and video streaming.

Creating memorable communications

Next Kate hosted a session on using numbers and storytelling to showcase impact.

Kate talks about the book ‘Talk Like Ted’ by Carmine Gallo, referring to the three modes of persuasion – pathos, logos and ethos.

To create memorable impact we need to have a memorable impact that provokes emotion (pathos), next how do we back that up with numbers and reason (logos)? The last bit is ethos – showing your credibility as an organisation.

One of the things we often fail to do is describe the credibility that we have within the community we work with. Adding pathos, logos and ethos into our case studies is really impactful.

How can you visually demonstrate your impact?

We also heard from El Warren, Charity Business Manager from BF Adventure. El talked about BF Adventure’s dedication to communicating impact and shared how the organisation has used digital content to create a visually powerful impact report.

If you are proud of the work you are doing and you are making a difference, it’s so important to talk about the work you are doing. Case studies are a great way to do that.
